Hello, happy Sunday! Something about The Feast of Saint James, they had a big service this morning so we rang at James Garlickhythe, then onto St Magnus. And with some elite ringers in tow we had enough to do some lovely ringing; call changes, plain hunting, then finished on Grandsire Triples.
And on Wednesday, at Bishopsgate, I rang Bob Triples for the first time(!!!). That was so very satisfying, and although my striking wasn't perfect, the couple of slip-ups were not mine. I was on the 3rd:
The first 2 leads of Bob Triples.
And later at the Waterloo practice we did Bastow Little Bob Doubles (aka Cloister Doubles) to practice double dodging, a key ingredient to ringing Stedman...
Then on Thursday another first, I rang Bob Major for the first time! Similar to triples but no tenor behind as the metronome, so you need to be more accurate and confident with where you're leading (i.e. at the front). And I was beaming when it came round; huge success.
I have a lot of theory to work through as well; I know the plain course and what happens at calls / touches, but I haven't really internalised the structure of the method, the coursing order, and how it all fits together. That'll come, especially as I start conducting it.
And on SATURDAY! An outing with the Bromley band, we went to Sussex and rang at 5 excellent towers:
St Mary's, Speldhurst
St Michael & All Angels, Withyham
Christ Church, Fairwarp
St Mary Magdalene, Cowden
St Peter & St Paul, Edenbridge
I tried all the tenors, including a nice touch of Stedman Triples as the last piece in Edenbridge. A lovely day out :)
